Canon Australia hosts world’s premier photojournalism exhibition in Sydney

World Press Photo ’18 exhibition on show at the State Library of NSW from 26 May to 24 June

Canon Australia is proud to host the complete World Press Photo exhibition at the State Library of New South Wales from Saturday 26 May to Sunday 24 June 2018. Now an annual fixture on the Australian cultural calendar, this acclaimed exhibition features the world’s best photojournalism from 2017 as selected by the jury of the prestigious World Press Photo Contest.

Now in its 61st year, the exhibition features 150 winning images selected from among 73,044 photos taken by 4,548 photographers representing 125 countries. The coveted World Press Photo of the Year was selected from six nominees including Australians Patrick Brown (General News, first prize singles) and Adam Ferguson (People, first prize stories). For the first time the exhibition features a dedicated Environment category addressing the impact of human activity on the natural world.

“Every year the World Press Photo exhibition highlights the importance of documentary photography in understanding and debating the realities of our world that would otherwise go unseen,” says Jason McLean, Canon Australia’s Director of Consumer Imaging. “In supporting World Press Photo, we hope as many people as possible get to appreciate the valuable work that photojournalists perform under often life-threatening circumstances.”
