Blackmagic Design ATEM Mini Pro as an audio mixer? Sure can!

I have been playing around with audio of late for a number of reasons that will become obvious down the track.

And today I wondered something.

Could the brilliant little  Blackmagic Design ATEM Mini Pro, as well as being a fabulous vision mixer for both live and pre-recorded events, also act successfully as an audio mixer for voice overs, podcast recordings and the like?

As a test, I set up the Sennheiser MKE 600 in the little audio recording box I built over the weekend with a cable into Mic 1 on the Blackmagic Design ATEM Mini Pro, attached a Seagate USB 3.0 external drive, fired up the ATEM Software Control package, configured the output options and filename etc, crossed fingers, hit the record button and started jabbering.

Hey presto! It worked (no reason it wouldn’t of course but it is always nice to be vindicated regardless).

And of course with two mic inputs available, I could do a two person recording or alternatively, use the second as an inline port for a music background or for sound effects etc.

Sure, as a dedicated audio mixer the Blackmagic Design ATEM Mini Pro is a tad expensive compared to other product out there, but when you factor in all the other goodies it has, it’s a bonus!
