Over the last few weeks, we have been organising a rebuild of our studio-cum-office and this is the result.
The “beating heart” is a Blackmagic ATEM Mini Pro and feeding into it are our Panasonic HC-X1 as prime camera, Panasonic HC-PV100 as secondary and a live feed from the Dell XPS PC as “Cam 4”. Cam 3 varies between a Panasonic HC-V180, a GoPro 7 or whatever else takes our fancy / we are testing (at present a Canon PowerShot G7X MK III.
For day-to-day work, extra video editing, 360 degree work and 3D modelling etc asa well as editing in the field and general use we rely on our GIGABYTE Aero laptop.
The green screen we built out of some wood from Bunnings and material from Spotlight, the audio recording box we built from egg cartons and styrofoam.
Lighting is using kit from Aputure.
Audio input is Sennheiser MKE 600 mics and Sennhesier XSW-D Lav radio mic kit as primaries and a mixed bunch of others we have picked up over the years from RODE, JayCar, AZDEN and AudioTechnica. Audio output is Logitech. Headphones are Sennheiser.
We also have a bunch of 360 degree / VR cameras of which our favourite is the Kandao Qoocam Studio (which took these 360 shots). Others are models from GoPro, Vuze and Ricoh. Added to these are other GoPro models that act as “action cams” (GoPro 8, 6 and 5), a DJI OSMO Action Cam, DJI OSMO Pocket, DJI MAVIC Mini drone and GoPro Karma drone.
Mounts for our “action” shots (motor sport, boating etc) are from UK based Cameragrip and are HIGHLY recommended.
The “teleprompter” is a Microsoft Surface Go running Teleprompter Pro software. Tripods are a mixture of Velbon, Manfrotto and CameraHouse no-name brands.
Editing is via Blackmagic DaVinci Resolve (with assistance from a Loupedeck CT and Contour ShuttlePro).
Finally, all data storage is on a combo of Seagate based units.
It’s taken a while, but I reckon we have finally got it sorted. Of course like most other people, we now have enough spare cables to ring the earth and moon and back again (but will still be short something of course at a crucial time as well as its adaptor connector) and there is NEVER enough power points, but so far, it has worked and our first outputs, a tutorial on the very basics of creating video aimed at the casual smartphone user and and an explantion of transparency as it relates to video editing should be out by the weekend all things being equal!
