Space Brains Productions Launch New Film Festival in Mandurah dedicated to local and international Science Fiction Films. Mandurah is set to host a scintillating explosion of brand new science fiction short and feature films with a gala event on May 21st 2022 at Mandurah Performing Arts Centre.

Space Brains Productions, a local Mandurah partnership between filmmaker Mark Regan, filmmaker, and author Surrey Hughes that produces the Space Brains science fiction film discussion podcast, are super excited to announce the launch of their inaugural science fiction film festival.

Surrey Hughes, partner in Space Brains Productions said: “Australia, particularly regional Australia, has so much hidden talent just waiting for the opportunity to get out there. This film festival means we can have a hand in growing that talent and exposing it to the world.”

The film festival is dedicated to discovering new talented actors, directors and writers of science fiction films in a competition with a day of programming including a gala awards evening. The evening will see the winning films screened and awarded at the Fishtrap Theatre, Mandurah Performing Arts Centre on 21st May, 2022.

Mark Regan, filmmaker and partner in Space Brains Productions said: “I’m excited to see all the good and great science fiction. We’ve got a day of informative programming including discussion, film screenings, awards and the chance to network with other filmmakers, writers and science fiction fans. We can make a difference here and I can’t wait.

Films can be submitted on FilmFreeway, an online film festival hub, where the Space Brains Sci-fi Film Festival will accept Mandurah and Regional WA, Australian and international science fiction films. The festival considers a film to be science fiction if it uses some aspect of speculative science as an integral part of its narrative.

Film festival details: Entries are open for short films (less than 15 minutes) and feature films (greater than 90 minutes) Award categories include: Best short film Best feature film Best Australian film Best Mandurah / regional film Best student / youth film Program and award gala on Saturday May 21, 2022 at the Fishtrap Theatre, Mandurah Performing Arts Centre from 11am
